Dakar, Senegal, will host Chanel's newest Métiers d'Art presentation on December 6, 2022

Destination fashion shows are returning in a big way and are now available in Africa’s developing premium markets.

“By choosing Dakar, the house wishes to make the savoir-faire of its métiers d’art resonate with the artistic and cultural energy of the city,” the French luxury brand announced in a brief statement.

Chanel said it will now resume its history of making the Métiers d’Art display a moving feast. Chanel has stayed close to home in recent years, partly because to the pandemic and also to strengthen its relationships to Paris.

The company has displayed Métiers d’Art collections in far-flung locations like Tokyo, New York, Shanghai, Rome, Edinburgh, Salzburg, and Dallas, all scheduled to coincide with the pre-fall season.
These expensive ready-to-wear lines showcase the skills of the specialized ateliers that Chanel has acquired through its Paraffection subsidiary.

The most recent Métiers d’Art exhibition was held at Le19M, an eye-catching center for specialty workshops created by architect Rudy Ricciotti and situated close to Porte d’Aubervilliers, a working-class neighborhood north of Paris.

Le19M brings together the tweed and embroidery makers Lesage, Lesage Intérieurs, Montex, and MTX, as well as the shoemaker Massaro, the feather and flower maker Lemarié, the milliner Maison Michel, the pleater Lognon, the great flou atelier Paloma, and the jeweller Goossens. Eres, a swimwear and intimates business, is also housed there.

With a repeat presentation of its cruise 2022 collection in Dubai in November and a repeat presentation of its most recent Métiers d’Art collection in Florence earlier this month, Chanel broke its recent streak of French displays.
